What are allergens?

Allergens are common substances that can trigger the itching in your eyes.4

What is allergic conjunctivitis (commonly known as eye allergies)?

Allergic conjunctivitis (con-junk-ti-`vī-tis) occurs when your body reacts to substances it considers potentially harmful. Your immune system releases a substance called histamine, causing the eyes to become itchy and watery.5

How common are eye allergies?
